Second best choice to what was /D?
Not sure there's any reason to use a /D scyther anymore. So any input into the the runner up?

I think the /A dagger spam is great.

with the changes to Asuran Scan, dagger spam is going to take a fairly significant hit too. sucks because ranger is one of the classes that benefited the most from Asuran Scan and can least afford to lose it.
personally might play around with R/W bunnythumper again. see if I can tie in some of the Deldrimor PvE attacks. Although I think I ended up abandoning it last time because I couldn't find a good hammer (or beast) elite to tie a PvE build together.

The W/D has made dmg output significantly better than before the update. Although it's nowhere near better than Dervs, it's still a heap of dmg. Went up against Master of Damage and put him down in 7 secs.

R/W, though it's nowhere near as good. Deep wound spam was pretty incredible, and the loss of asura scan hurts a lot.

The nerfing of Asuran Scan killed the turrets too - leaving about zero viable R/ PvE builds - oh wait, maybe spirit spam - yeah that's fun.
Too bad. Guess I won't be playing GW2 - will also advice everyone else against it.

Pretty much my opinion now aswell, there is absolutely nothing a ranger can run that is somewhat viable other than splinter barrage or spirit spam.
Pretty much why I abandoned my ranger a year ago and wont be playing him anytime soon after this update. Gogo 6 derv 1 orders 1 ER prot spamming GDW.

Let me see if I got it right, for HM PvE rangers was basically all based on Asuran Scan to do anything?
Because in the Dervish update the only significant change I notice on R/D is that scythe now attack faster ... so what exactly am I missing?
Also, on HM R/A or R/P pet builds isn't good?

I think people are complaining that a lot of scythe attacks now require adrenaline instead of energy and also for their full effect, they require dervish enchantments.
The adrenaline isn't too big of a deal because the scythes attack faster, but it was more efficient when they cost energy because Expertise lowers the cost.

I still don't get the whole whining.
The R/D builds I saw the skills required around 4~6 seconds to recharge also there are many attacks that still use energy, so there is still time to gain adrenaline before the skills is available anyway.
Also, since asuran scan got nerfed there is a slot for other Dervish enchantments to trigger the full effects of the skills.
I still didn't finished a good skills research but I bet there must be new great builds for R/D, maybe not "meta" but still ...

Call me crazy but I still like R/Me echo chaining trapper builds. And I like R/N touch rangers. Are they good for speed clears? Heck no. Are they even optimal? No. Are they well accepted by PuGs? No, but 99% of PuGs suck. It's still easy to faceroll most areas R/Rt spirit spamming and Splinter/Barrage still works, of course.
Trapping and touch builds work for many areas of the game, even in HM. Trapping is a slow play and a lot of people find it boring. I like laying a bunch of traps, pulling enemies over them, and watching the pretty numbers. Add a minion bomber and/or SoS hero for easy mode.

In the days of synergistic team builds, the touch ranger just doesn't bring a lot of damage to the table other than making you really durable and hard to kill. A ranger with a set of daggers is going to pump out some massive damage (even without Asuran Scan) if you have the right heros helping boost your damage.

I agree. I just think it's fun to be hard to kill. I like a slower play style. Sometimes I play where I'm trying to spike hard and take out enemies quick so I can move on. Other times I'm just blowing off steam. And it's fun to run around just touching this guy then that guy and stealing health while my heroes' minions and spirits do the heavy lifting.

R/D can't spam deep wound with wounding strike as easily.

Using a "fun" template for serious PvE now:
OgETMZreRSsA7bHMsQ07qgHk2AA
Pet dagger might be decent, and barrage can be good with the appropriate team set-up.
This is a huge nerf for rangers in general pve... as if they weren't already bad enough. Bleh.

With 3 pips regen you can't do much with spells and some scythe attacks that (now) remove enchants have their bonus reduced when no Dervish Enchantment is removed. So you'd need not only the energy for the attack, but for the enchantment as well. With an attack costing 3+5 = 8 E the 3 pips mean you can hit such a combo once every 8-10 seconds. Needing extra slots for enchantments will compete with space for energy management
Enchantment juggling is not what you'd do with R/D I think.
You'd have to look for skills that don't interact with enchantments or better ways to manage energy. Or other skills.

I don't care about 'meta' but if you have any idea's let us know. You could replace the deep wound with Enraged Lunge, but the enchantment removal in Reaper's is now lost, sadly.

It was the damage skill for PvE Turrets, a +60% damage increase (on all damage) is pretty substantial.
It was less usefull for R/D, scythe is AoE and I always found EBSoH most effective when used in the frontline with pet and minions swarming in it's area of effect - basically there weren't enough Pve skill slots

Every physical non-AoE build got hit hard with AS. AS removal hit dagger assassins just as badly as dagger rangers, not to mention all types of warriors, and fun as new dervs are they can't compete with old zealous vow + AS attack spammers. All physical melee builds are still highly ridiculous when properly buffed. If you run around avoiding old builds with AS you're just going to end up in practically the same builds again.
